My first 3D print

No, I did not finish my 3D printer yet, but I have done my first 3D print.

The cap for the wind shield liquid container of my car broke (it’s old, very old), and I needed a replacement.

I came to my computer, took some measurements and drew it in FreeCAD. It was a bit of a challenge, because I’m not exactly an expert in 3D design, but I managed to pull it through (with some help from this youtube clip).

(Some) Progress on the 3D printer

One of my work colleagues has an Arduino kit, that includes amongst other things a stepper motor driver, an ULN2003APG board,  and I convinced him to lend it to me.

This weekend I had some time, so I played a bit with it. After reading it’s data sheet, and comparing some examples I found online with other motors; finding those motors data sheets and comparing their coils connections with my motor, I got to this schematic:

On the (bumpy) road to build a 3D printer

When the craze with the quadcopter drones started, of course I wanted one, so I bought a few (cheap) parts to learn how they work and played aroud with building one. I’ve never finished the project, because…. I don’t know… I „postponed it”.

In celebration of this, together with Aaron Honeycutt, Rick Timmis and of course Jonathan Riddell, I held a presentation of our new Kubuntu at the Ubuntu Online Summit 2015.

My first Qt application

Good bye Java swing, Hello Qt.

Cross platform is very searched for these days, especially with the number of Linux users growing. The need to build an application that can be used everywhere existed for a very long time, and what I intend to present here is not something new, it’s just new to me.

Qt, pronounced „cute”, is a library for C++, but not limited to that, that can be used to write code that can be compiled on/for almost any operating system, including Linux, OS X, Windows, Android, and iOS(still under development).

LibreOffice 3.6 Romanian Linux deb Installer

libreoffice-logo

This is a test script I made for easier installation of LibreOffice 3.6 for Debian based Linux distributions with the Romanian Language pack. This does not require any Linux command line skills. Just download the archive and double click the file called INSTALL.sh, and follow the instructions. After the installation, the Installer window will close automatically.
